CASE
An Immediate Action Plan
The William G. Rohrer Center for HealthFitness
The Challenge:
The William G. Rohrer Center for HealthFitness sustained damage from a small fire that started in an overhanging electrical fixture. While the fire and water damage was limited to the affected area, smoke and soot spread throughout the building, resulting in closure.
Immediate Action:
In order to remediate and reopen the Center as safely and quickly as possible, allRisk was hired to manage the cleanup and recovery process. By the next morning, we had developed a timeline and strategic work plan that assured that the facility’s medical offices would reopen that Monday; the entire Center by the following Wednesday.
Our Work plan:
Our first step was to erect barrier containment chambers, which can best be described as plastic walls, hung ceiling to floor to cover the entire building. The chambers were created to prevent cross-contamination as each zone was cleaned, and to prevent contamination from the affected to the non-affected or less-affected areas. This technique promotes the best health and safety practices and also assures time efficiency.
After the chambers were erected throughout the building, allRisk’s team of trained remediation technicians cleaned each zone, including the structure, contents, and fitness equipment and ventilation systems. In order to clean every square inch of this 46 feet tall building, four hydraulic lifts and scaffolding were used to ensure that we reached all surfaces.
Results:
After a third party environmental consultant thoroughly inspected and approved each zone. The areas were then cleared and reopened for use by members, patients and staff.
