Philadelphia Area Residents Familiar with Flooding Brace for Nor’easter
The phrase "April showers bring may flowers," doesn't quite work for some homeowners who live along the rivers and streams, because they fear that April showers bring April flooding.
And with a big Nor'easter expected later in the weekend, they're hoping to escape that kind of problem.
Dean Ragone of all risk property damage experts has seen it all, and at this time of year especially, he says this area is
susceptible to flooding:
"If you recall two years ago in April, the Delaware River overflowed, flooding New Hope, Trenton, Hunterdon and parts of
Northampton County, and the water just went everywhere."
Ragone says anyone who lives in a low-lying area could find themselves the victim of a sudden flash flood, and he says it
can cost you a lot of money:
"Normally the water's in your basement, the water heater is in your basement, your oil heater, and obviously if it hits your oil heater you've got an environmental problem on top of it."
His advice? Protect yourself against loss with flood insurance. Try to keep valuables out of the basement.
