TIP DU JOUR: Sponges Will Clean Soot from Walls
As diligent as you may be, fire in your home or business can happen. Dean Ragone of allRisk in Somerdale provides the following tips on recovering the structure after a fire. This is part one in a series of tips this week:
Open windows and doors to allow fresh air to circulate and help dissipate smoke odor. Clothing, carpets and other furnishings might require professional cleaning to eliminate the smoke odor.
The use of a shop vacuum will help to remove the dry soot and chemical residue left from fire extinguishers. Dry-cleaning sponges are great for removing loose soot particles from latex paint, ceilings and acoustic tiles. They are inexpensive and are available through cleaning and paint supply outlets. Do not use household cleaners on these surfaces, only dry sponges.
